With Warzone Season 4 Reloaded getting distant in players’ memories, more and more are turning their attentions to Season 5 and the content it could bring. It’s also worth saying that S4 is set to be the shortest of the MW2 life cycle, so we’re rapidly approaching the games’ next major update.
Warzone Season 5 Confirmed Release Date
As per Activision’s confirmation, Warzone and Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 will begin on Wednesday August 2, 2023.
We don’t have exact release times yet, but recent seasons have gone live at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST. The updates themselves are usually made available to pre-load earlier on the release day.
The date was revealed in a July 26 tweet alongside key art for the upcoming season. It was also confirmed in July 27’s season overview that patch notes will drop on August 2, just ahead of the season’s launch itself.
That tracks with what we expected from the Season 4 Battle Pass. The majority of seasons have been around two months in length, but this one will be a lot shorter and last around 6 weeks. We don’t know why that is right now.
There’s been speculation that S5 will tie into the reveal of the next CoD installment, thought to be Modern Warfare 3 (of the rebooted MW series) and developed by Sledgehammer Games.
Season 5 Content
Activision have now released a season roadmap, meaning we know what to expect with the launch and the content that’ll come in-season. For a full rundown of what’s been announced to this point, check out our early Season 5 patch notes.
Among other things, we know there’s two new weapons coming to Warzone and MW2, one of which is a lot like the FAMAS of old CoD titles. The other is a semi-automatic sniper rifle. There’s also two new maps, one of which is Strike from 2007’s Modern Warfare.
DMZ is receiving huge changes, with the Konni Group emerging as a new threat and four new items coming. One will even give players immunity from enemy AI for a short duration, disguising them entirely.
Warzone will be receiving two new vehicles and a Call of Duty 2023 reveal event. There’s operator skins for Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage. No, you didn’t read that wrong.
In short, there’s tonnes to be excited about – and some stuff to question. Either way, that’s all the Season 5 news and the release date for the content. As more is revealed by the Warzone and MW2 devs, this page will change to reflect it.
